Spring Student Assessment

Spring Student Assessment

Dear Parents and Guardians of Bemis Junior High School Seventh and Eighth Graders,

All seventh graders will take the M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress) assessment in the areas of English and Mathematics. The M-STEP measures your student's growth and progress on the Michigan Academic Standards. Those standards are available at the following web site: www.Michigan.gov/academicstandards.

All eighth and ninth grade students enrolled in Michigan public schools will take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) 8/9 state assessment this spring.  The PSAT 8/9 is the first exam in the SAT suite of assessments and will help families and the school staff see where students are in their overall achievement.

The PSAT 8/9 is comprised of two tests: reading, writing and mathematics.  It is important that our students do their best as the assessment will provide families with important information on academic progress.

In addition to the PSAT 8/9, eighth grade students will take the science and social studies M-STEP assessments.

Please note the following changes to our school calendar:

Test Dates 1
Test Dates 2
Test Dates 3
Test Dates 4
Test Dates 5

This schedule is an additional measure to provide our students with every opportunity for success.  Additionally, it ensures that every student’s time in school is well spent.

Additionally, students participating in PSAT 8 and PSAT 9 online assessments will be prompted to participate in the College Board Connections program and Big Future program.  Students will be instructed to opt out of these programs unless the attached form, (Parental/Guardian Opt-In Form for optional Information Provided During the SAT Suite of Assessments), is returned to your child’s first hour teacher by March 27, 2026.
